Batik Painting Process
Hereby would like to explain the processing of batik painting, from the beginning to the last of processing.

We have five step to start or to begin :

1. Designing
2. Filling the wax
3. Coloring
4. Removing the wax
5. Clarity the cotton

At the first step, we have to design on the white cotton with pencil so in design we can follow our feeling that could be our taste, or for beginner we can make design so simple.

The second step is more difficult for the beginner because to put wax on the material is not easy. We have to fill in the design with hot wax perfectly, and in waxing we used a pen wax or it call “chanthing” in Javanese language.
In “chanthing” we have many different size, the different size is in the hole of “chanthing”. So every “chanthing” have different specification for waxing, like the smallest size for dotting, the medium size for line and so on.

Coloring is the third step in the technical of batik, we could start from the lightest color to the darkest. Of course we have to start from the lightest color to the darkest because in the processing of batik we have to cover it every steps of color with wax. For example, yellow color to red color, if we do not cover the cotton with wax, so all the cotton become red color. That’s why we have to put wax on it and in this case, the wax is for protecting the cotton from other colors.

We can remove the wax from the cotton in the boiling water. Hot water can milk the wax of the cotton. We need to used very hot water to boil the cotton and the wax can floating on the water.
This forth step will take much more energy than other step because not only to remove the wax but we have to clean the cotton from the wax dirt.

The final step is just to clean the cotton by traditional Java way, we use detergent but non chemical one call “lerak”. In Javanese language, that is by the fruit of the tree and the tree is call “lerak”.
We inundated the batik or cottn in to the “lerak” detergent java at least five to seven hours to cleaning the cotton from the dirt and make the batik more colorful.

In one painting we could finished at least one week or could be more, is just depending by how difficult or complicated of the work on a painting. The more complicated, the longer time needed to finish it. So that why batik painting is more valuable than batik stamp or factory product.
Our batik is able to wash and iron, use the soft soap and low temperature for ironing.
